Go back to questions
- How do my pupils login ?
- Once you have registered and your application has been processed, you should
issue your school User Name and Password to any student who wishes to use the
material on the site.
Make sure that you have read the terms and conditions page
Go back to questions
- How do I change my login details ?
- If you wish to change your login User Name or Password for your students to
access the site, you should e-mail us with your desired alterations.
Before any changes are made, we will send an e-mail back to the teacher who has
requested the changes, asking them to confirm the changes (this procedure is in
place to stop pupils attempting to deregister their school, or changing the login
passwords without the teacher knowing).
When a reply is received from this confirmation e-mail, we will try to make any
alterations requested as soon as possible (within reason).
The login details that are for teacher use only (i.e. for viewing/changing
registration details and accessing Teacher Zone) cannot be altered.
Go back to questions
- How do access/view my login details ?
- Your login details are e-mailed to each of the registered teachers of your
school.
For security reasons, these details cannot be viewed on the site, but can be sent
again via e-mail if required.
Go back to questions
- How do I access the Teacher Zone ?
- After you login to the site, you are presented with the 'Welcome' page.
From here you can access all revision material, search the site and access the
Teacher Zone.
You are required to fill in the password as given on the e-mail that was sent to
you when you first registered.
Go back to questions
- I've lost my login details - what now ?
- If you lose your login details, send an e-mail to Evans2 ChemWeb stating your
school name and the details will be sent to each registered teacher at your school.
Go back to questions
- How do my students register with the site ?
- It is not necessary to register your students with this site.
Once the teacher(s) register(s) (on behalf of the school), the allocated username
and password is intended for both student and staff login.
Registration is simply used to set up personalised school logos,
teacher photos and to set up the emailing of webtest results function
(if required).
- Can any other school register ?
- Yes - provided the registration form is completed by a chemistry teacher at
their school (preferably the principal teacher).
The material on the site is aimed at the Scottish syllabus, and may not be relevant
to schools other than Scottish schools.
Go back to questions
- Can individuals register ?
- No - only the teachers of the school in question can 'register' but all of the pupils
(and other interested teachers in the school) have permission to use the school's login
details and access the site.
Go back to questions
- Can I modify my registration details ?
- You can access your schools registration details and modify them by following the
link from the TeacherZone.
You need to enter the password allocated to teachers at your school which was given
on your original e-mail from Evans2 ChemWeb.
Go back to questions
- I've lost my registration details - what now ?
- If you lose your login details, send an e-mail to Evans2 ChemWeb stating your
school name and the details will be sent to each registered teacher at your school.
Go back to questions
- Where is the material for .... ?
- Since this site is administered by only two people (who both have day jobs),
it may take some time to complete the entire syllabus.
Go back to questions
- Can I submit revision notes ?
- No - Not the standard revision notes. Teachers can however, create their own
'drop-down minitests' and 'webtests' using the 'wizard' in the TeacherZone area of the site.
This will upload the test to the site for all to use (including your own students).
Go back to questions
- Where is the material for .... ?
- Since this site is administered by only two people (one has a day job and the other is retired),
it may take some time to complete the entire syllabus.
Go back to questions
- Can I submit webtests ?
- Yes - Teachers can create their own webtests (and drop-down minitests) using the
'wizard' in the TeacherZone area of the site. This will upload the tests to the site
for all to use (including your own students).
Go back to questions
- Will I receive student webtest results ?
- Only if you have requested this facility when you registered.
If you wish to change your registration details, you can do so from the 'TeacherZone'.
Go back to questions
- Where do my students results go ?
- If upon registration you selected the option to receive e-mails of student
webtest results, the marked results will be sent to your registered e-mail address.
Your students will be given their results on the web and they can print this out if
desired.
Go back to questions
- What is the Student Pin number ?
- The student pin number (at the top of a webtest) is a unique code or number
that you can allocate to each student.
The format of the code is entirely up to you and can be used to verify that the
name given on the webtest results is genuine (i.e. if it matches the correct pin
number you have allocated that pupil). The PIN number is optional and you do not
need a value to use the webtests.
Go back to questions
- Is the service free ?
- No - Evans2 ChemWeb was originally a free service aimed at Scottish High School
Chemistry Departments, but since our webspace hosting is no longer paid for, we
have had to introduce a small charge for schools to use the material. Schools who are members of SSERC have their subscription paid. We would like to thank SSERC for their funding.
Go back to questions
- Why is it so cheap ?
- We only charge schools a nominal annual fee (currently £20) as:
1. Finances in Chemistry departments are stretched enough already
2. The aim of this site is to benefit Scottish High Schools.
- Can I link to your site ?
- Please do !!
We'd prefer if you use the code below as your link :
<a href="http://www.evans2chemweb.co.uk" target="_blank">
<img src="http://www.evans2chemweb.co.uk/link.gif" width="150" height="40" border="no" alt="Evans2 ChemWeb">

- The fancy parts of the site don't work...(drag and drop, webtests, virtual lab experiments)
- If you have any problems with the site, check out the 'Browser Details' page
(accessed from the main page) as this is the most likely explanation.
If this does not answer or solve your problem, please fill in the comments page
(available on the Welcome page) or e-mail us.
Go back to questions
- Why does the REFRESH button take me back to the home page ?
- Because your 'login' User name and Password are stored in the browser header,
when you click on the REFRESH/RELOAD button on your browser, you clear these values
and the site will see you as un unregistered user. You are then required to login
again. If you need to REFRESH a page, we suggest using your browser's BACK button,
followed by the FORWARD button.

- How do I customise Evans2 ChemWeb for my school ?
- Teachers can upload images to be shown on the 'select your teacher' page and they
can also upload a copy of their school badge. Image size should be no greater than
120x120 pixels and no greater than 30Kb file size. To upload images, teachers need to
log in to the TeacherZone and follow the links to edit their school details.
